School Highlights and Happenings – Lee District
When you elected us as your School Board members, you entrusted us with an important and precious responsibility - providing the best education possible for your children and preparing them for the future. As elected representatives, we also have responsibility to those citizens who do not have students in our schools; and, to them, we must ensure wise use of tax-payer dollars and sound management of the school system.
We have not taken these assignments lightly. Over the past several months, the Board has met nights and weekends to review our mission, vision, and strategic goals for Fairfax County Public Schools. We are unanimous in our agreement to establish an objective to better prepare our students and FCPS for the future. But, what precisely does that mean to you? That's exactly what we want you to tell us!
This is a critical time for our children and this school system and we want your thoughts and recommendations as we plan for the future. We have a set of academic goals, but we want your feedback to make them final!
I have scheduled a Lee "District Dialogue" meeting on Monday, April 3, 2006, 7:00 p.m. at Lee High School in Lancer Hall. As your Board member, I will host the session but I've asked other Board members to join us. We have a short set of questions that we'll use to start the conversation and then we want to listen to your answers. I promise we will begin . . . and end . . . on time! Before the meeting, take time to look at our Mission, Vision and Beliefs. There is a link on the Fairfax County School Board's website http://www.fcps.edu/schlbd/strategic.htm which will provide a complete overview.
School Board members will host similar meetings in the other magisterial districts, and you are welcome to attend those as well. We are also reaching out to other community groups and School Board Advisory Committees. We want to consider and balance the needs of all students across Fairfax County, and to do so, we want to hear from everyone who has an interest and opinion on the educational future of our students and schools.
Please come to the session on April 3rd - you will be personally welcomed by School Board members and your opinions will be appreciated and acted upon.
